the turmoil? is it the sanctions or as hillary clinton was suggesting or iran's mismanagement of the economy and where is this heading? could there will be a persian spring that somehow overthrows the regime? >> we thought we were headed in that direction in 2009. it is heartening to see there are enough people in iran to organize and express a view that pushes the government to be more responsive. it's very, very difficult to see how the current, at least starting of these protests, can get the critical mass that is needed to make a change in the regime there. if there isn't international support for it and organized opposition, these regimes like north korea, china and in times part they can weather this kind of turmoil without changeover for a very long time. >> gregg: israeli prime minister benjamin netanyahu believes that iran is roughly nine months from spinning enough uranium to create a bomb. is that a fairly accurate timetable in your judgment? >> well, we don't get to know. i think once we have verification that they have the capability it's been too late. trying to neg

a former clinton campaign adviser. gentlemen, thanks so much for being here. steve, let me start with you. so places like sears and olive garden, red lobster, they're going to give their employees a chunk of change, and supposedly you can go out and buy your own insurance. is this a great idea or a horrible idea? [laughter] >> i actually kind of like the direction here of, basically, saying to workers you can shop around, you can buy the health care plan that really suits your need. so it's a kind of freedom of choice approach. now, the way this ties in, by the way, allison, to obama's health care plan that you were talking about a minute ago is that under obama's plan what you're seeing is a lot of employers are dropping their health care plans that they provided for years to their employers, and they're going to put those workers into what's called the health care exchange under obamacare. that's something that workers are resisting because it means they're not going to get the kind of quality of care that they want. the idea of giving people a wide range of options, though, as

republicans for bringing former president bill clinton into the mix. >> we tried both approaches. the approach governor romney is talking about is the same sales pitch that was made in 2001 and 2003. and we ended up with the slowest job growth in 50 years, we ended up moving from surplus to deficits, and it all culminated in the financial crisis since the great depression. bill clinton tried the approach i'm talking about. we created 23 million you are in jobs. we went from deficit to surplus, and businesses did very well. martha: don't forget that bill clinton did very well for this president at his convention. but there is karl rove's tweet. the twittersphere was going braisey last night. karl rove said, mr. obama, you're not bill clinton. bill: what did charles think. syndicated column tonight charles krauthammer said there was a clear winner. >> romney won big. he won by two touchdowns. when he steps on the statement gives him stature. when he performs like romney did it changes the mow men tim. bill: krauthammer went on to say one debate won't win the election but it might change

catered to the audience and adoption of a southen accent which hillary clinton was accused to. >> brian: it was a bigger deal. i think they will focus on him. i don't think he has governed a black or white american. if nothing else unemployment in africa-american communities are through the roof. i thought allen west comments were insightful. he said i tell you first of all. i was born in raise in georgia. and i am sursurprised that the southern acent with the president raised hawaii. and hoe was able to do that. >> steve: and we'll have the story live. put down that remote. he will be up this hour. >> brian: another story . the department of justice denied that the suspected terrorist held in gitmowill be coming to the united states. the white house bypassed congress and spending money on a federal prison. it is it a back door move that could begin that process. joe, what do you think this is all about? >> first of all i will try to keep my acent one way through the whole thing. one thing, this thing is just another lawless act by our administration to circumvent congress and

president clinton. doug, you first. what changed after the debate for the democrats. >> what changed the inhe have tiblty of president obama and showing the polls and reuters and rasmussen showing a close race or even a slight romney advantage, as in the rasmussen poll, but bottom line, president obama has got to get back to his core message of fiscal discipline and social compassion. and the governor romney is is an out of the mainstream extremist, he didn't deliver that on tuesday and he lost as a result. >> jamie: angela, what's the road map for republicans over the next 30 days. >> status quo. mitt romney, no question, that debate was a game changer, but jamie, a debate doesn't win an election, it sets the tone. he has to keep performing, keep talking about what he will do to create a better america and are you better off than you were four years ago. and we have all of these poll numbers dealing with swing states, but the polls that count, would you go to the poll and vote and i believe that people are going to vote their wallets, not going to vote their conscience, not

mistake, it's good in politics. i remember bill clinton did badly at the democratic national committee speech. he then went on jay leno and made fun and played his saxophone. romney got high boost from the first debate. two things to keep in mind. one, the polls show that the enthusiasm gap that romney has now is in his favor over obam obama. now this means that the democrats' base because they fear romney could be elected is enthusiastic. the swing voter polls in swing state they ask about taking position on this, after the debate, obama 43, romney 20. connects well with ordinary americans. obama 69. romney 7. so i think that rom lom has work to make up for himself but he did a good job. he did give himself another shot at this. the boosts like that, the boosts go away. >> dana: you pretty much the whole block so now we can kick it around the rest of the time. when you look at the number on the enthusiasm that bob mentioned, republicans are well more enthusiastic than democrats. if you are the obama campaign you get the numbers today. what goes through your mind about the $1

cross border attacks. in the united states, secretary of state, hillary clinton, called the turkish foreign minister and pled the united states support. syria was the ally of turkey but now it is a bitter enemy after syria erupted in a bloody civil war 19 months ago, a violent revolution which human rights groups say has killed some 30,000 people. the chief fox correspondent, jonathan hunt, is like with the news. tensions are clearly still very high along that border. >>jonathan: they are. syria share as lengthy border with turkey. it is just on the syrian side of that border where the rebels are in many towns the strongest. it is across that border that many of the refugees from the civil war in syria have fled. it is a border that turkey says it has the right and more importantly, perhaps, the ability to defend. in so doing, at the moment, it has the complete support of the united states. listen. >> from our perspective, the response that turkey made was appropriate. it also was designed to strengthen the deterrent effect so these kind of things don't happen again. it was proporti

the clinton machine. i think he is going to be strong. i think his one weak point is that he is thin skinned. if romney can manage to get under his skin in some way i think that actually happened in 08 one or two of the clinton debates. i think it could sort of puncture that aura as that obama had. i don't think there is any way you could be decisive. one thing that will help romney is always true of the challenger just being on the same stage as the president instantly raises your stature. i think if he can hold his own and perhaps prevail even to a minor extent he will reverse the momentum which has been rather negative. >> the first debate takes place tomorrow october 3rdrd. our coverage starts not a minute later 8:55 p.m. meg begin k megan kelly bret bal be there live. >>> you need your first degree weather update who has rain in the east. >> good morning. good morning everyone. we are talking about rain across the east unfortunately today will be a muggy day out here. a lot of humidity and also showers stretching from portions of pennsylvania down into the state of florida.

about that. >> now the obama camp had no problem really slamming hillary clinton in the 2008 primaries in order to win that i'm told by top democrats privately that part of the strategy mr. obama had going into last night was that he thought if he really went on the attack before such a large audience face to face with mitt romney it might back fire and look like it's beneath the dignity of the office. he may have to rethink that now with two months to go trace. >> camp claims govern romney won last night because he lied. not everybody in the democratic party is buying that, right? >> that's right. i even spoke to some obama supporters at this rally here in denver. a couple of women told me, look, they still want to vote for the president, they plan to, but they thought that mitt romney did a strong job. it wasn't because of style points. one woman used the gravitas and said he had command on the stage. none the less the obama campaign was insisting this was just about style. it was about scripted lines. while other senior democrats like charlie rangel said they are not buyin
